Forward Deployed Engineer

See what slows field operators down, then build the tools to fix it.

About the role

As a forward deployed engineer, you’ll sit with the operators who run projects and own the systems that control customer intake, estimates, scheduling and follow-up. Where we hit snags, you build the fix and ship it that week, sometimes that day.

Expect to spend as much time understanding the work as writing code.

What you’ll do

  1. Find the friction in how a job moves from first call to paid invoice, and turn it into a fix you ship that week.
  2. Take a vague, half-defined operations problem and turn it into something you can build and measure.
  3. Build AI agents and automations end to end on our stack to take repetitive work off the operators.
  4. Own features across the whole stack: the web and mobile apps, agent tooling, database, and the integrations that connect them.
  5. Stay close to the people using what you build. Ship it, see how it runs, and fix what’s off.
  6. Sweat the details where the work touches a customer. How a quote or a text reads matters as much as the logic behind it.

What we’re looking for

  1. You like ambiguous problems and the people who have them. This is not a heads-down, ticket-taking job.
  2. Three or more years shipping production software, comfortable owning a feature from schema to API to UI.
  3. Production experience with an LLM SDK like Claude or OpenAI. You’ve built something with agents or function calling, not just typed into a chat box.
  4. Experience with TypeScript and React, with solid SQL fundamentals.
  5. Clear writing and clear talking. You’ll work directly with operators and customers.
  6. Based in Rhode Island or Southeastern Massachusetts.

The stack

  • Next.js 15 (App Router), TypeScript, React
  • Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui
  • Drizzle ORM on PlanetScale (MySQL/Vitess)
  • Anthropic Claude (Agent SDK, supervisor tools)
  • Stripe (invoicing, deposits, Connect)
  • Quo (OpenPhone), Twilio
  • Google Cloud Storage + Cloud Run (ffmpeg)
  • Vercel, GitHub Actions, Vitest, Playwright
  • Bonus: home services, field-ops or marketplace experience

Where your work lands

  • ZenLink

The software our operators, coordinators and crews run jobs on: intake, estimates, schedules and the phone app on site.

The service homeowners and landlords hire. Every quote and text they read comes out of what you build.
